Schweitzer, Julie
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the differences and similarities in the media coverage of the Israel and Palestine conflict in the United States and in France. The first part of the paper discussed the evolution of the news coverage and the current situation in the United States and in France. The second part of the paper discusses how the French students understand of the media coverage of the Israel and Palestine conflict. Finally, the paper presents some examples of how the conflict impacts the United States and France. The Israel and Palestine conflict is a very sensitive topic in the media both in the United States and in France. Since it involves two important communities, it is very hard to avoid tensions between them. Beside what seems to be a lack of objectivity from the viewpoint of one community is considered fair by the other community and vice-versa. Moreover, French students are aware of existing biases in the way the media broadcast the conflict. They regret the way the media favors the Israel side of the conflict.
