Status of the Red Fox in Oklahoma and Comparison of 3 Furbearer Survey Techniques

Hatcher, Richard Thane

This study was designed with two separate objectives: to determine the current status of the red fox in Oklahoma, and to compare 3 extensive survey methods for monitoring furbearer populations. Museum records, a mail survey to professional wildlife personnel and field observations were used to determine red fox status. Results of a farm operator mail survey and 2 variations of a scent station survey were analyzed to meet the second objective. The 2 chapters of this thesis were prepared using the formats of 2 scientific journals. Each chapter is complete and requires no supportive information. The format of Chapter I meets the specifications of The Southwestern Naturalist. Chapter II follows the format of Wildlife Society Bulletin.
