Abstract

Puppies are many times more responsibility and cost than anyone expects. My Honors Thesis will hopefully enlighten people especially college students on the responsibility of owning and caring for a healthy puppy. The brochure highlights key points such as dog food brands, ways to pick the best puppy, time required per week, total cost breakdown, and how dogs can help humans. After reading the brochure hopefully owners can make better informed decisions that can lead to less animals in local shelters. The idea for this Honors Thesis came after speaking to someone at the local Humane Society. The woman said that every year after the college students leave for the semester there is an influx of dogs to the local shelters. The typical story is the student did not realize how much time and money the animal required to stay healthy and happy. Many students have summer internships and never bothered to plan ahead to have a living situation that allowed animals. Hopefully after reading this brochure they can make better informed decisions regarding their pets. They will now know how expensive and time consuming puppies are today. Therefore more people will pick a time in their life that is best for them and the puppy. Researching about puppies will not only give people a better idea of the responsibility but will also help people prepare before people welcome a puppies into their home.
