Abstract

Scope of Study: An attempt has been made in this report to compile information about water-resistant glues that may be of benefit to teachers in the selection of the proper glues for industrial arts shops along with general information on gluing. This research study includes a brief history of glue, general information and properties of water-resistant glues, and other information such as safety precautions, and mixing procedure. The technical information was omitted as much as possible in order to make this a report of general nature. Information such as prices may be secured from glue manufacturers and dealers.

The material in this report was secured from periodicals, pamphlets, books, and information sheets furnished by manufacturers of water-resistant glues. The Forest Products Laboratory of the United States Department of Agriculture furnished much material.

Findings and Conclusions: Only a small amount of the material in this report comes from textbooks on industrial arts. In many cases this form of assembly material is neglected in class discussions and study, therefore, many undesirable experiences may result.

Recommendations are made in the last chapter of this report in relation to the proper selection of a water-resistant glue. The types and quantity of material to be glued deserve much consideration in the selection of the proper glue.
