Abstract
As mankind begins to consider exploration missions beyond the Earth, one of the major issues that must be overcome is the need for a long term source of food. For the 2014-2015 academic year, the X-HAB challenge put forth by NASA was to develop a conceptual space ready design for a deployable greenhouse system that could be used during longer Mars exploration missions. During the course of the academic year, an interdisciplinary team of students at Oklahoma State University developed a potential design for such a system, presently referred to as O.A.S.I.S (Organics and Agricultural Sustainment Inflatable System). In addition, several physical analogs were built in order to enable the testing of a variety of different factors related to the conceptual design. This project concluded with a final teleconference with individuals from NASA as well as an onsite visit by a NASA representative.
